#GLASGOW DAUNDERS
Bespoke Walking Tours
Glasgow is a city steeped in history. With its rich architectural heritage, vibrant cultural life, and friendly people, it should be on every traveller’s bucket list.

Mit seiner bewegten Geschichte, dem reichen architektonischen Erbe, einer pulsierender Kultur- und Gastroszene und warmherzigen Einheimischen ist Glasgow ein Muss für alle Fans von Städtereisen.

Let me take you on a daunder (a Scottish term for a walk) to discover the real Glasgow: From its medieval beginnings, via its heyday as a seat of learning, merchant adventures, and gateway to the new world, to its decline and subsequent rise and reinvention in the mid-20thcentury.

Jahrhunderts.
Architecture
Glasgow is particularly noted for its Victorian and early 20th century architecture. Charles Rennie Macintosh left a distinct mark on Glasgow with his "Glasgow Style"- frequently in collaboration with his wife Margaret Macdonald Mackintosch. Many fine examples of modern architecture can also be found around the city. Join me in exploring the rich architecture of the UK City of Architecture and Design 1999.

According to legend, Glasgow (gaelic: Glaschu – Green Glen) was founded by
St Kentigern (later St. Mungo) in AD543 on the banks of the Molendinar burn. A seat of learning and trade from Medieval times, the city prospered significantly as an Atlantic port for trade with Europe and America. This wealth, and industrial and technical innovation during the Industrial revolution, resulted in Glasgow becoming the self-declared “Second City” of the British Empire. The First World War marked the start of an era of economic depression and social change for the city. However, in the second half of the 20th century Glasgow managed (and still manages) to reinvent itself. The transformation of Glasgow and the gradual growth of its self-confidence made Glasgow into the vibrant, exciting city of today.

“People Make Glasgow” can be seen on buildings and in prominent locations all around the city. It’s the city’s official “brand name” and describes the essence of Glasgow to a tee. Glaswegians (or Weegies, for short) are very friendly, open, and unpretentious. They love chatting, and visitors shouldn’t be surprised if a local starts a conversation with them, be it at the pub or the bus stop. Glaswegians have a great, often dark, sense of humour – maybe because much of Glasgow’s story has been harsh and raising a laugh served as an antidote to adversity.
Word of Mouth
You gave us a fantastic introduction to Glasgow and not least the proud history of Scotland. We enjoyed your pleasant and calm way of walking around in the streets of Glasgow. As guests in Glasgow we felt safe and the atmosphere was cosy.

Anna took the time to understand what we wanted to see and do, was very knowledgeable and engaging and answered all our questions. We were able to see parts of the city that we would not have seen had we taken a large tour, and learned about the history of Glasgow from a local's point of view. I highly recommend Anna. She provides a unique perspective of Glasgow and its history.

Anna customized the tour to what our interests were and the time we had. If you want to see something that is a must see, or something that is on the top 10 list, or something off the beaten path, Anna is your tour guide. She knows the city like a local. In fact, she knows the spots that locals cherish and the spots that are rich with history, character, and culture. She is a great communicator too and we heard memorable stories from her about the places we visited that seemed to make them come alive. She even recommended some wonderful restaurants and pubs. Anna is a fabulous tour guide.
